Mission Accomplished — Control House Project Completion

Control House before remodel

Control House before remodel

The complete rebuild of this asphalt plant control house was staged at our Eagle Electric Service shop in St. Cloud, Minnesota. We started by stripping virtually everything inside — the obsolete plant control computer and PLCs were removed and discarded, and the plywood subfloor was removed and replaced. After a thorough cleaning, we were ready to begin the rebuild process. New operator controls were manufactured and mounted into slope-faced operator consoles. New countertops were manufactured and installed around the operator consoles.

The update included installation of a computerized asphalt drum mix/blend control system and a dual silo loadout system. All plant motors are monitored with an ammeter display system, which shows motor loads on one convenient screen. The control update included new control cords, receptacles, and plugs.

External plant equipment upgrades were numerous. The asphalt pumping/meter skid was updated with a Viking pump, which we fitted with metering electronics. The virgin and recycle belt scales received new weigh bridges, speed sensors, and remote controlled test weight assemblies. The bin feeders, virgin and recycle had new tachometers for precision feedback installed, as well as new “no flow” switches installed.

Once all was set up on-site, installation of new control cords, testing, and adjustments were completed. Now back in action, the control house is completely up-to-date, extremely accurate, and very-user-friendly. Best of all, the plant now has full-service support from our team with one simple call.
